Spring is in the air on May 3rd, and we are preparing to ride the most colorful wave in history: National Wave Day! Taking place just one week before Mother’s Day, this annual celebration honors the beauty, resilience, and lasting impact of Wave® Petunias. For 30 years, these vibrant, spreading wonders have turned ordinary yards into extraordinary landscapes.

Wave® Petunias are known for their vibrant color and easy-care appeal, making them a favorite for gardens, containers and hanging baskets. Whether planted to brighten a front porch or add color to a garden bed, they prove that a little water and plenty of sun can create lasting beauty.
Wave® Petunias are easy to care for and thrive in 6+ hours of direct sunlight in your outdoor spaces. Like many flowering plants, they benefit from regular feeding with liquid fertilizer every few weeks to keep their color blooming strong all season.
The Wave® Movement
The "Wave" movement officially started in 1995 when a magenta-colored superstar called Wave® Purple Classic wowed trial judges with its incredible garden strength. It didn't just grow; it conquered the ground, creating a lush carpet of color that had never been seen before. Today, the Wave® family has grown into a "Squad" of its own:

8 WAYS TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL WAVE DAY
There are many ways to celebrate in your own backyard or at a community garden, planting Wave® Petunias will add a vibrant burst of living color to outdoor spaces. Here are 8 ways you can get involved in National Wave® Day celebrations:
Host a planting party. Get some friends together to pot up colorful mixed containers (featuring your favorite Wave® Petunias and Wave® Pansies, of course).
Give a gift of living color. Do you know someone who could use a flower in their life? Caring for and nurturing a small pot of Wave® Petunias or Wave® Pansies is sure to elevate their mood.
Think Pink. Pink is the signature Wave® color. Whether you put pink petunias in a window box, on the front porch, or in that sunny spot near the garage, everything is always better with a bit of pink.
Reach new heights. Top off your welcoming front entry with a hanging basket of spreading Wave® Petunias or Wave® Pansies. They’ll be the first cheerful thing guests see when they visit.

National Wave Day was created by Wave® Gardening to honor the brand’s 30th anniversary in 2025, celebrating not only the enduring impact of the original spreading petunia, Wave® Purple Classic, but also the exciting future of Wave® and the beauty it continues to bring to outdoor spaces everywhere. Since it first wowed All-America Selections trial judges in 1995 with its reliable garden strength and vibrant magenta color, Wave® Petunias and Pansies have become beloved favorites in gardens across the nation, symbolizing resilience and beauty throughout the seasons.
The National Day Calendar Registrar approved National Wave Day to be added to the calendar in 2026. Each year on May 3rd, we honor the beauty, resilience, and lasting impact of Wave® Petunias on National Wave Day.
