NATIONAL COFFEE WITH A COP DAY

NATIONAL COFFEE WITH A COP DAY First Wednesday in October

NATIONAL COFFEE WITH A COP DAY

Behind the badge and uniform are members of our community—neighbors, parents, and friends. National Coffee with a Cop Day, celebrated on the first Wednesday in October, provides a unique opportunity to connect with these men and women in uniform on a personal level over a simple cup of coffee.

#CoffeeWithACopDay

Inspired by the cliche about officers and their coffee shop donuts, this national day encourages communities to bring citizens and those on patrol together and take the opportunity to open dialogue and improve communication. National Coffee With a Cop Day breaks down barriers and creates a valuable bridge to relationships in our communities. The community as a whole will see officers as approachable and their ally in protecting and caring for their communities.

When officers hear their community's needs from the people themselves, they're better able to support them. For residents, this is a chance to ask questions, voice concerns, and get to know the officers who patrol their neighborhoods in a relaxed and informal setting. It humanizes the badge and fosters a sense of shared community ownership while getting a deeper understanding of the neighborhoods they serve. It allows them to build trust and form relationships that can lead to stronger, safer communities for everyone.

HOW TO OBSERVE COFFEE WITH A COP DAY

While many cities and towns across the country hold Coffee with a Cop events throughout the year, the first Wednesday in October is the official National Coffee with a Cop Day. Plan one now and several later in the year!  Find an event near you and join. Use #CoffeeWithACopDay in your sharing on social media.

NATIONAL COFFEE WITH A COP DAY HISTORY

In 2016, the first Coffee with a Cop Day took place across the nation. The Hawthorne Police Department in Hawthorne, California, launched the idea in 2011. They sought ways to interact with their community every day more successfully. As a result, they established a Coffee with a Cop event to do just that. Throughout the year they make meaningful connections, and the idea has spread across the country to all 50 states!
